Outpatient Therapy

Preschool Children

Small problems can often resolve on their own, but sometimes they develop into bigger, more serious challenges. The focus for young children is quick problem resolution and then prevention—getting ahead of those hurdles that hinder children’s positive development and setting them up for success moving forward. This population is a favorite of Dr. Henderson’s: “Typically, the 3-6 year old age group improves rapidly, within a few, short weeks. Their young brains are malleable and easily take on new patterns of behavior. Working with this age is a joy!”

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” ~Dr. Seuss

Elementary School Children

Problems that occur during elementary school (children ages 5-11), should be handled as they arise for a quick resolution. It is often a simple matter of helping children learn new strategies for dealing with everyday situations. Dr. Henderson uses cutting-edge science to get children back to their happy, curious, playful selves. There are many excellent, evidence-based methods for helping your child back on a positive path of growth and development. Treatment generally ranges from 6-12 weeks, depending on the presenting problem.

Middle School Pre-adolescents

The middle school years are filled with multiple changes in a child’s life – social, academic, physical—and many children experience some distress during this developmental period.  Parents continue to play a highly significant role in their children’s lives. Helping middle-schoolers learn to take on life’s difficulties encourages them to grow more resilient and readies them for the increasing challenges of adolescence. From anxiety to ADHD, depression, and more, middle school-aged children can improve emotion regulation, learn new skills, and utilize coping strategies that serve them now and in the future.

“There is no normal life that is free of pain. It’s the very wrestling with our problems that can be the impetus for our growth.” ~Fred Rodgers

Adolescents

The challenges of adolescence can be overwhelming; the teen years are often when more significant mental health issues arise. The best approach is proactive and preventative. Dr. Henderson will assess the areas of difficulty and intervene with the soundest psychological methods to help adolescents overcome and master their problems. She frequently treats anxiety, depression, self-harm, ADHD, OCD, parent-adolescent conflict, eating issues, trauma, and many other challenges faced by teenagers.

“When I approach a child, he inspires in me two sentiments — tenderness for what he is and respect for what he may become.” ~Louis Pasteur
